Welcome to our web site!
Winterwood Lodge is situated in the River area of Turangi, adjacent to Admirals Reserve.
We are only a few minutes walk to the world famous Tongariro River with the popular
Hydro Pool at the end of our street.
Mt. Pihanga, often snow-capped in winter, rises bush-clad behind the Lodge and shelters
us from the three other mountains, Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu in the Tongariro
National Park just a short distance up the Desert Road. Skiing
at Whakapapa is only a half-hour drive away.
There are many lovely walks, tramps and bike rides within our area and every season is a
photographer's delight with the snow-covered ranges in winter, the spring cherry blossoms
and the autumn foliage.
The Tongariro River, apart from having the best trout
fishing in the world, is also popular with canoeists and river rafters and provides some spectacular scenery in
the upper reaches, easily accessible by car.
Turangi is a town for all seasons, enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, artists, fishermen,
skiers, mountain
bikers and many others seeking to escape city life and enjoy the wide open spaces,
panoramic mountain views and clean crisp air.
